A little about the producers: In the sun-kissed landscapes of California, two wineries, Monte Rio Cellars and Stirm Wine Co., stand out as beacons of innovation within the realm of viticulture.
Monte Rio Cellars, guided by a visionary ethos, intricately weaves tradition and innovation into the fabric of its winemaking philosophy. Led by Patrick Capiello and Pax Mahle, the winery's commitment to articulating the unique terroir of California's wine country is nothing short of poetic. Here, wine is seen as a living entity, a reflection of the essence emanating from the sun-soaked soils to the cool whispers of the Pacific breeze, a testament to the profound belief that wine embodies the very soul of the land.
Meanwhile, Stirm Wine Co., under the discerning direction of winemaker Ryan Stirm, mirrors the dedication to unearthing the purest expression of California's Central Coast terroir. Embracing a philosophy deeply rooted in meticulous vineyard practices, Stirm embodies a paragon of minimalist winemaking, drawing inspiration from the Old World's vignerons. The wines, dominated by cool-climate varietals like Gruner Veltliner and Riesling, showcase a delicate dance between classical finesse and avant-garde verve. Stirm's approach is a harmonious marriage of tradition and innovation, with each bottle unfolding a narrative that captures the essence of Central Coast microclimates and soils.
Both Monte Rio Cellars and Stirm Wine Co. share a commitment to meticulous craftsmanship, paying homage to the alchemy of winemaking. From hand-harvesting to spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, each winery embraces a hands-on approach that transcends the temporal boundaries of tradition. Monte Rio Cellars, with its symphony of contrasts, crafts wines as sensorial experiences, while Stirm Wine Co. emerges as a beacon for those on an odyssey through the terroir. Both wineries, while distinct in style, echo the same sentiment—a profound respect for the land and an unwavering commitment to the art and soul of wine.
