Join us this Sunday, the 20th, from 3-6 pm to discover just a few outstanding producers from Monterey Bay Wines!  Founded in 1980, Monterey Bay Wine Company has been dedicated to offering hand-crafted wines to discerning restaurants and retailers throughout California. The company has grown exponentially from an initial three counties in Northern California to statewide coverage.  Our good friend Bill will pour a killer lineup from three producers we love: Bedrock Wines, Birichino, and Domaine Eden.

Bedrock Wine Co. began in 2007 in a converted chicken coop on the outskirts of the town of Sonoma. The fruit, hailing from his family’s Bedrock Vineyard and Teldeschi Ranch, and several amazing vineyards were added to the Bedrock portfolio in subsequent years through perspiration and serendipity. "If something has been growing for over 100 years it not only deserves the respect of us humans, but it probably makes some darn good wine too."

Alex Krause and John Locke founded Birichino in Santa Cruz in 2008. Drawing on a combined four decades making wine in California, France, Italy, and beyond, they are focused on attaining the perfect balance of perfume, poise, and puckishness. Sourcing from a number of carefully farmed, family-owned, own-rooted 19th and early 20th century vineyards in more moderate, marine-influenced climates, their preoccupation is to safeguard the quality and vibrance of their raw materials. They prefer minimal intervention in the cellar, employing native fermentations, stainless or neutral barrels, minimal racking and fining, and avoiding filtration altogether when possible so that the distinctive qualities of the sites with which they are lucky to work is highlighted. But most critically, they aim to make delicious wines that give pleasure, revitalize, and revive.

3. Birichino Malvasia

4. Birichino Central Coast Pinot Noir

Domaine Eden is a nearby mountaintop wine estate purchased in 2007. Modeled after Mount Eden, it was founded and built by the late Tom Mudd in 1983, who initially planted the Mount Eden clonal selections of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, which evolved to include Pinot Noir from various Dijon and California selections. The viticulture at Domaine Eden is approached with the same level of naturalness and sustainability as Mount Eden’s estate vineyards. The soils here, however, are different from the estate’s Franciscan shale so even though Domaine Eden is a mere mile away “as the crow flies”, the wines express more varietal fruit with expansive mid-palate flavors than the soil-driven minerality of Mount Eden estate wines. With the differences in vineyard character, the property inspired a new wine brand, Domaine Eden.

5. Domaine Eden Chardonnay

6. Domaine Eden Cabernet Sauvignon
