Let's Talk Chili Beans

As a child, and even to this day, when I think of Halloween, chili beans pop into my mind. As far back as I can remember, Ma would always make her infamous chili beans every Halloween. Before going out to trick-or-treat, my family and I would all sit down for dinner and devour Ma’s delicious chili beans. This is a family tradition that has continued to this day with my five-year-old son, Lukas going to Nanna’s house to have chili beans before our night out of trick-or-treating.

Here is a quick and easy recipe for y’all to make your own chili beans, but more importantly, creating long, lasting memories and maybe even, a new tradition to begin with your family.

Ingredients:

  • 1-pound Ground Chuck Beef

  • 1 Large Brown or Yellow Onion – diced

  • 2 Green Bell Peppers – diced

  • 2 Red Bell Peppers—diced

  • 3-4 Cloves of Garlic – chopped

  • 1-2 TBSP Salt: Taste to your preference

  • 2 TBSP Pepper

  • 2TBSP Cumin

  • 2 TBSP Chili Powder

  • 1 TBSP Red Chili Flakes

  • 2 Cans of Pinto Beans – drained

  • 1 Can of Kidney Beans – drained

  • 1 Can of Cannellini Beans – drained

  • 2 Cans of Tomato Sauce

  • 1 Can of Diced Tomatoes

Directions:

In a stock pot, cook the meat, seasonings, onions, bell peppers, and garlic all together. Then, add the different kinds of beans (pinto, kidney, and cannellini), tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes to the pot. Once all the ingredients are put together, cook your batch of chili over a low and slow heat for 45 minutes to an hour.

I hope that all of you enjoy this recipe as much as my family and I do!
